So I thought I would venture outside of my normal post about weight loss and running and start to blog about what consumes the majority of my week days. I may be a fitness nut on nights and weekends, but by day I’m a preschool teacher. A toddler teacher at that, I have 5 fantastic one year old’s in my class. Love them to pieces but that is a tough room. I’m always looking on Pinterest and finding preschool blogs to find new ideas to bring into my classroom. So I thought that I would share some of my own ideas that I’ve used and figured with Easter coming up why not start now.
I found this idea in a Preschool magazine and every age I’ve worked with has loved making them. I mean what’s not to love about shaving cream & getting a little messy. So let’s make some Tie-Dye Eggs.
Things you’ll need
- White cardstock or construction paper cut into a egg shape
- Shaving Cream
- Food coloring – All colors, I used the neon ones for this project
- Cookie sheet or tray
- A Squeegee (I used a plastic knife)
- A paint smock or old tee shirt
First squirt some shaving cream onto the tray or cookie sheet and use the Squeegee or knife to spread it out into a thin layer. Since my class is younger, I did that part for them. But for older children they can do that on their own
Next I let each child pick out 2 or 3 colors and helped them squeeze out the color onto the shaving cream.
Next I let them use the plastic knife and they swirled the colors and shaving cream together.
Once the colors were mixed, I took the card stock egg and placed it on top of the shaving cream. I let each child press it down. Then I pulled it up off the shaving cream. I took a paper towel and carefully wiped the excess shaving cream off, the colors smeared a little, but that is ok. You can also leave the excess shaving cream on for a “bumpy” effect.
I had one boy who likes getting his hands dirty, so we both had blue & purple hands for a while. Working in a toddler room, sometimes you have to embrace messy.
Once they were dry, I hung them on my Easter Basket bulletin board. I hope you enjoy this fun project with your children, I know we had fun. HAPPY EASTER!!!!
Always, Angie B
